Back land BALI

The main agricultural crop is rice. There are two types of rice agriculture; the wet rice is called sawa’s and the dry fields are called are called ladang.

There is less vegetation in the North than in the South, because the climate is drier there. The slopes on the South side are very fertile, the soft rock is intersected by deep River Gorges, marked out in several places with beautiful rice terraces. The southern peninsula Bukit is very dry and is an exception to the rest of South Bali; the peninsula consists of limestone, this makes the landscape bare.

In the sparsely populated West are the central mountains fully grown with tropical swamp forests. A large part of it belongs to the Bali Barat National Park. In the East are the slopes of the still active volcano Gunung Agung also covered with tropical forests.

There are more tree and plant species of Balinese flora here than in the whole of Europe. Many of the tree species have a religious and spiritual meaning for the population here. Many well-known house and garden plants grow freely on Bali.  There are hundreds of species of orchids, which are remarkable. Especially in the quiet areas  of Bali you will find a great wealth of animal species. The wild animals live in the forests at West-Bali, this include leopards, wild boars, snakes, iguanas, lizards, turtles, monkeys, geckos and many bird species including the Bali Starling.

The beautiful coral reefs are the habitat of numerous kinds of fish.

The highest mountain of Bali is the still active volcano Gunung Agung, height up to 3150 metres, From the East to western direction is a row of volcanoes located together, 5 that are higher than 2000 m. Bali has many rivers and a number of crater Lakes. Green dominates the Bali skyline from the bright, light green of the fledgling young rice plants on the paddy fields to the heavy dark green, that dominates in the tropical forests.
